What exactly is meant by a legalisation? How can it be obtained?

A legalisation allows a foreign document to be used in Belgium/by the Belgian authorities. Please note that legalisation procedures frequently include several steps.

Discover the concrete steps to be taken for your specific case.

Legalisation of official Kenyan, Eritrean and Comorian documents

For legalisation of official Kenyan, Eritrean or Comorian documents, please make an appointment at the embassy

Only official documents, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and diplomas, which have first been legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Eritrea or the Comoros can be legalised by the Belgian embassy.

Please consult the fee per legalisation and the bank details for the payments.

Legalisation of official Somali documents

Due to the state of chaos in Somalia, no substantive and formal certainty regarding the correctness of the submitted documents and signatures can currently be guaranteed. Somali documents can therefore not be legalised by the embassy in Nairobi.

Legalisation of official Seychelles documents

The legalisation of official documents from the Seychelles is done with an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Seychelles. This is a shortened form of legalisation that allows you to prepare your document for use in Belgium.
